Tech News: Earlier, there were reports that Foxconn had called back 300 engineers from its Indian plant to China, which led to speculations that the production of Apple products could be affected. But an Indian official says that Foxconn, which assembles iPhones, has ordered some employees to return to work from China in the last few months, which is believed that there will be no disruption in Foxconn's operations in India.
Referring to Foxconn's India operations, S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, India, told reporters in Taipei that some Chinese employees were asked to return, but this has not had any significant impact on the company's operations. Foxconn has had a plant in Chennai for the last five years and is now preparing to open a new plant in Bangalore, S. Krishnan said during a visit to a trade fair in Taiwan.
Foxconn and the company's client Apple are trying to increase iPhone production in India to mitigate the impact of tariffs imposed on Chinese goods by US President Donald Trump. The tariffs are currently on hold due to negotiations on a trade deal between Beijing and Washington. Most of the iPhones that Foxconn makes for Apple are assembled in China.
Tensions between India and China escalated after a military clash along the disputed Himalayan border in 2020. India then imposed restrictions on Chinese investment, hundreds of popular Chinese apps were banned. Relations between China and India have gradually improved in the past few months and last month Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his first visit to China in seven years.
